I CAN: create a graphic organizer for notes on The Wizard of Oz, and research Frank L. Baum, Kansas, and the time period of the novel.
I do: Introduce The Wonderful Wizard of Oz novel; ask for memories of the storyline.

LIBRARY DAY; Day 1 G.O. for 3rd
I CAN: create a theme and character map and begin completing it.
I do: Introduce characters of the novel. Show basic character map outline. Review theme; model creating a theme section in notes. Model identifying quotes to support conclusions drawn.
We do: Create a list of characters with connections. Begin reading. Practice identifying quotes which support characterization and theme.
You do: Identify quotes from the story which support your conclusions about the characters, setting, tone/mood, plot, and themes.
