I CAN: create a graphic organizer for notes on AMND, and research and define various types of comedy.
I do: Introduce A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Show “William Shakespeare” ppt and “William Shakespeare: A Mysterious Life” (p 24 Cal Shakes).
We do: Create notation document for AMND. Include graphic organizer for notes on slapstick/physical comedy; character comedy; wit/wordplay comedy; insult comedy; and farce.
You do: Define each of the types of comedy.

I do: Use “Brush up Your Shakespeare” reference sheet (p 46 Cal Shakes). Read through words and definitions; discuss similarities and differences to modern definitions. Review context clues. Model matching from p 14 Cal Shakes handout.
We do: Read through “Shakespeare’s Language” (p 14 Cal Shakes) and discuss matching. Review context clues. Match one phrase.
You do: Finish matching Shakespearean phrases to modern phrases.

I do: Introduce characters of the play. Show basic character map outline. Review theme; model creating a theme section in notes. Model identifying quotes to support conclusions drawn.
We do: Create a list of characters with connections. Begin reading AMND. Practice identifying quotes which support characterization, theme, and comedy.
You do: Identify quotes from the story which support your conclusions about the characters, comedy, and themes.
